Welcome, once again, to our website, and to my individual page.  I have been practicing law for over 30 years primarily in Battle Creek and Calhoun County.  Although our office is in Battle Creek, we also handle cases throughout lower Michigan.  Each of the attorneys in our firm have various areas of emphasis.   I can assist clients in all areas of civil law, including, but not limited to, the following:

I was born in 1961, and grew up in Three Oaks, Michigan.  I graduated from River Valley High School in 1979, from Central Michigan University in 1983, and from Valparaiso University School Of Law In 1986.  While at Valparaiso University, I received the highest scholastic achievement honor for my legal internship in 1986. 

After receiving my Juris Doctor degree from Valparaiso, I interviewed with my current law firm, which was then known as Humbarger & Humbarger.  My current partner, Robert L. Humbarger and his father, Lloyd H. Humbarger, interviewed me.  It  took just one interview for me to know that I wanted to practice law with Robert and his father.  I still remember leaving that interview back in 1986 and telling my wife that if I was offered a position with this law firm, I would accept the position without concern for my beginning salary.  Their philosophy of how to practice law, and of how to treat clients made an impression on me that lasts to this day.  As luck would have it, I was offered the position, walked through the doors of this law firm in June of 1986, and have had the good fortune of serving many clients through this law firm for almost 3 decades.

I recognize that meeting a lawyer for the first time can be anxiety filled for most people.  In addition, many people fear that lawyers will be too expensive.  I make every effort to alleviate these concerns.  I make a point of ensuring that my clients know that I  understand the circumstances that bring them to see me and that I truly want to help them.  We have a friendly, but professional atmosphere.  In fact, on most days, my clients will have the option of having my friend and companion (my dog, Dana) available to sit in on our meetings.  Also, many of my initial consultations are done for no charge, or for a nominal charge. These are explained in the initial telephone call prior to the scheduling of the first appointment.
